The road to Hamningberg

For a day trip from Ekkerøy you may travel by car further east to Vardø 55 km, where you can go sightseeing in the old fishing town of Vardø with Vardøhus Fort. Afterwards you can take the road further north towards Hamningberg, approx. a new 40 km. The road is a bit narrow but if you travel with patience you can experience a very unique nature. At the end of the road you reach Hamningberg, which is and old fishing settlement.

In the 1950-ies the inhabitants got electricity and a road out of the village, but they never got a secure harbour which could shelter the boats from the arctic autumn and winter waves. So the village got deserted, but in the summer time people come back for some short months. The place is quite exotic for tourists.
